• The Power of One

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”    [Romans 12:1]

This is an exciting season in Central and Sunday will be no exception. I can’t wait for Sunday as Pastor Micah Kephart and I lead us through another Water’s Edge Sunday. Water’s Edge Sundays are a key pillar of how we keep our multi-site church on the same page. As a church we recognize that we’re part of a movement that is committed to sending and serving not seating and being served. It’s the commitment to go and serve that connects our campuses.

This weekend is Memorial Weekend. It’s a time when we remember those who laid down their lives for others. The day functions as a reminder not to allow the sacrifice of the fallen to be in vain, but to rise up and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all. Our theme for Sunday is, ‘The Power of One.’ We’ll champion the importance of sacrifice so that the memory of those who have fallen may never be forgotten. We’ll also celebrate those within our own faith family who lay so much down to fight for liberty and justice for all.

Sunday is going to be an exciting day where we’ll hear transformational stories from some members of our faith community. These are some of the many modern day champions of liberty and justice who’ve found their unique way to bring the hope and life of the one who laid everything down for all the peoples of the world (see Romans 3:25). The sacrifice of Jesus was voluntary not required. He wasn’t forced to lay down his life but chose to do so freely (see John 10:11). The challenge for every follower of Christ is to allow his example – and the example of those who’ve fallen for our freedom – to become our experience. I’m excited that this examples lives on amongst us…
